Project Summary

To create an internship application that will enable management of internship accounts for students, employers, and administrative staff through a secure web interface. The application will be able to be utilized by multiple colleges and departments across the university.

Application Features:

  • Students can apply for internships online
  • Employers can post new internships
  • Departments can approve new internship postings

Project Goal:

To build a secure web application that will allow internships to be managed online by employers, students, and administrative staff. To create a scalable application for university-wide use.

Objectives:

Create a single scalable application for university-wide use

  • enable departmental management of own student and employer accounts
  • accounts will be secure and password protected
  • authorization will be done through single sign-on with ASUrite ID and passwords
  • provide automatic messaging processes to employers, students, and staff
  • provide tracking and feedback capabilities

Student Functionality

  • search for available internships online in their college and department
  • apply for internships online
  • fill out a application form
  • upload a resume
  • accommodate registration criteria that varies for each college

Employer Functionality

  • manage their accounts online
  • enter internship descriptions and criteria
  • renew their accounts every year

Departmental Functionality

  • Administrative capabilities
  • approval processes for internship submissions
  • record changes

Possible Solutions:

  • Use of Drupal to create the web application
  • Use of OGATE ogate.asu.edu (web service application) as Drupal / Peoplesoft interface

Number of Customers Impact:

Number of students, faculty / staff, and employers depend on project sponsorship

Risks and Assumptions:

  • Funding
  • Internship standards across all of ASU
  • Availability of a php accessible interface or web service for Drupal (or other technology) to communicate with PeopleSoft
